The Beginning
My dream is finally reality! There is much planning and hard work yet to be done. I am so excited to see it grow! My husband and I bought our property early October 2023. We have begun to plant and establish some perennial beds and currently have two gardens in production.
Spring is nearly here and it is time to finish cleaning up the gardens and to build my propagation house. I am thrilled! Starting seedlings can be so challenging without a dedicated space–my kitchen table can only hold so many plant trays and my kids need to have a place to eat! I will be able to start so many more baby plants for the garden, and I may even be able to offer some for sale at the farm stand.

We have farm ducks. I call them my slug patrol. They love bugs and happily spend their days chasing down garden pests. The character and sweet goofiness that they bring to the farm always brings a smile to my face.

Some of the annuals that I love best are Iceland Poppies, Snapdragons, Scabiosa, Sweet Peas, Cosmos, Campanula, Zinnias and Dahlias. You can tell that I have a difficult time picking a favorite. This year I am excited to trial foxglove, larkspur, hanging amaranth and stock. I grow lots of whites, blushes and peaches, with additional spring and fall colors. I am happy to grow specific colors for your wedding, provided that I have ample time to purchase seed, start the seedlings and get them to maturity before your event!

On my farm I use sustainable and regenerative practices. That means that I am using natural and organic fertilizers–lots and lots of fish emulsion, and amendments such as feather and alfalfa meals. I also grow cover crops to keep the soil covered, add organic matter and grow my own mulch. It is such a joy to see the diversity of life in the garden. The beneficial insects and pollinators are safe from harmful pesticides. I have seen so many native bees, parasitic wasps, ladybugs, butterflies, hummingbirds and goldfinches in my flower patch. These are flowers that you can feel good about stuffing into your face and enjoying their sweet scents.
